2012 Health and Fitness Trends This is in your future.-
SYSTEM UPGRADES.
As technology progresses, so will healthy lifestyle apps. Tools like the Jawbone Up will become de rigueur for folks who want a well-rounded healthy lifestyle...or just really want to know if it's possible to burn 600-1,000 calories in a spin class.
-
DRINKING GAMES.
Juice bars were all the rage this year, and now with Starbucks getting into the juice biz, we'll see even more green liquid lunch options popping up around town. To differentiate, we expect local spots to offer more customized cleanse programs, nutrition counseling and seasonal options.
-
WORK OUT WHENEVER.
More specialty studios like Shred415, Flywheel and CircuitFit will open up to offer major calorie-burning workouts throughout the day, so you'll get in a sweat session no matter how hectic your day. First up: Bar Method Wicker Park in early 2012.

GET A DOSHA OF THIS.
When Chicago's first Ayurvedic wellness center opens in early spring, wellness lovers will go crazy for all things dosha-related, including specific detox programs, diets and spa-style body treatments.
-
RAW FOOD HEATS UP.
Chicago's raw food queen will get a run for her money with Peeled introducing an improved juice cleanse and a new line of raw food options. We also heard that a famous raw chef will soon be setting up shop downtown or in River North.
-
RAINBOW BRIGHTS.
You'll lighten up the lakefront path in 2012. Next year, fitness fashion gets bright and bold. Nike has an entire line of enhanced visibility running gear and companies such as lululemon (hot jacket!) and New Balance (ultra-bright top!) are taking jackets and tanks into dare-you-not-to-look neon territory.
-
PUMP IT UP.
Music helps us get in the zone, so it's no surprise that themed classes, like Core Fusion for Gleeks at Exhale, Justin Timberlake Yoga Sculpt at Core Power and an old school ride at Go Cycle, will become big in 2012. Also, keep an eye out for DJ-curated playlists and live music in group fitness studios.

FITNESS GETS HUNGRY.
Black Swan turned us all into wannabe ballerinas, so we flocked to barre classes. Our crystal ball is telling us things will get decidedly more survival-of-the-fittest this spring with The Hunger Games movie. Expect to see a surge in functional training classes and don't be surprised if an archery fitness trend surges.
