  • Ani credits raw food with her healthy glow.

For "uncooking" show host Ani Phyo, author of the new book Ani's Raw Food Desserts, LA is a cornucopia of healthy treats. She let us in on her favorites:

  • Kanga indulges in sun and surf.

Having a dog's day. "My Rhodesian Ridgeback, Kanga, is red with a mohawk up her back: she's like a lion-hunter dog. I take her to Huntington Dog Beach. It's a mile or two long, and dogs can run free." MAP

  • Wild rice is actually a type of grass.

Going wild. "I love going to Âu Lac, a Vietnamese restaurant with both raw and cooked stuff. I like the curried rice: it's sprouted, wild rice tossed in a nut cream with chunks of avocado and cauliflower and broccoli and olives and marinated mushrooms." 16563 Brookhurst St., Fountain Valley, (714) 418-0658, MAP

  • Luxuriate in natural, chlorine-free hot springs.

Soaking it in. "I love Beverly Hot Springs, which is built over a real hot spring in Koreatown. It's so good for detoxifying, and it makes your skin glow." 308 N. Oxford Avenue. Los Angeles, (323) 734-7000, MAP

  • Grabbing a date. "I go to the Venice Farmer's Market on Sundays, and I love Batuista Dates. I enjoy their halawi dates, but they have so many delicious kinds--I always do the tasting and try them all!" 501 Venice Blvd., (310) 399-6690, MAP

  • Mulberries are rich in antioxidizing resveratrol.

Finding berried treasure. "On Saturdays, Essential Living Foods opens its warehouse to the public. You can get cacao nibs, mulberries, maca, açaì, goji berries--it's a real hidden treasure." 922 Colorado Ave., Santa Monica, (310) 319-1555, MAP

    We like this raw deal.
