Jane Wurwand is the woman behind Dermalogica.

Pretty Logical

A beauty world maverick shares her weekend plans.

LA-made beauty line Dermalogica advertises that it isn't "pretty": free of frou-frou packaging, it's formulated to function. It's no surprise that its founder and owner, British-born Jane Wurwand, has a super-clean and healthy lifestyle. Her weekend:

  • Pilates does wonders for abs.

    Belly buster.

"I love Pilates, and the best I've found is Danica Doran's Pure Strength Pilates. I've had two C-sections, and if you're recovering from lower abdominal surgery, this really targets that area." Pilates Studio West, 11950 San Vicente Blvd., Suite 210-211, Brentwood, (310) 207-1868, MAP

  • Parsnips give soups sweetness.

    The root of things.

"I have a big, ugly, fabulous orange bike, and on Sundays, I cycle to the Brentwood Farmers' Market. Right now, I love curly kale and parsnips. I think I've got that British root vegetable thing because in the UK, that's really all you get." 741 S. Gretna Green Way, Brentwood, (818) 591-8161, MAP

  • See waterfalls fifteen minutes into the Cold Spring trail.

    Going native.

"I love going up to the Cold Spring hiking trail in Montecito. There are waterfalls and a swimming hole, you can easily hike up with children, and we can pretend we're native Chumash Indians being there for the first time." See a map here

  • Kreation Kafe's meze plates are light and healthy.

    Kreative thinking.

"I call Kreation Kafé "my office." They have a great covered patio that most people don't know is there. And they do an organic chicken kebob with a whole plate of hummus and tabbouleh." 1023 Montana Ave., Santa Monica, (310) 458-4880, MAP

Way to get down to business.
