  • When DJ Derek Beres isn't making music, he teaches yoga at Equinox. (Each week, he creates a new playlist for class.) To him, music and yoga are complementary: "In yoga, the idea is to find space within the thoughts. In music, you’re looking for the space between the beats." Here, he takes us for a spin in the city:

  • A better brew. "SubtleTea in Murray Hill has a tea called Green Tea Almond Cookies that I'm addicted to. It is a sencha tea with coconut shavings and almonds." 121 Madison Ave., (212) 481-4713, MAP

  • Dance off. "My favorite dance party is Turntables on the Hudson, held at numerous venues during the year. And being a recent transplant to Brooklyn, I'm a fan of Barbès--they have some of the best local and global programming." 377 9th St., (347) 422-0428, MAP

  • Market watch. "Back to the Land Natural Foods has been my weekly spot since I moved to Park Slope. They have a great selection of gluten-free products and I stock up on Dr. Bronner’s soaps and Guayaki Organic Yerba Mate." 142 7th Ave., (718) 768-5654, MAP

  • Surf's up. "I like to hop on the A train and head out to the Rockaways when it starts to get a bit warmer. The western part of the beach is desolate, even on weekends, which is great." Take the A to Beach 60th St. Station, MAP
