Whether you're hosting a soirée this holiday weekend or looking for a festive destination, Karen Bussen, author of Simple Stunning Parties at Home, helps deliver the "wow." Here, the food and floral expert plants a few fresh ideas:

  • Green Market

Try a refreshing recipe. "Two of my favorite places for produce are Union Square Greenmarket and Whole Foods. Right now I’m super into watermelon, and am loving it as a salad with crumbled goat cheese, diced red onion, and mint. Add a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar—yum!"

  • Proseco Raboso

Be pretty in pink. "Summer is all about light, crisp wines. For cheap and chic, I adore Riondo’s Prosecco Raboso, a pink sparkling wine that works well with grilled fish and light pastas. And for other amazing values, go to Best Cellars--almost all wines are $15 or less." 1291 Lexington Ave. (212) 426-4200, MAP

  • Alstroemeria

Build a budget bouquet. "If you're at a bodega, look for alstroemeria. It comes in a variety of colors and lasts forever if you change the water every few days. You can also buy fresh herbs and mix them into your arrangements. Try rosemary for more rustic arrangements and mint for more delicate bouquets."

  • Cabrito

Have a fiesta. "There is always a party vibe at Cabrito, which has some of the best fresh cocktails. The menu is simple Mexican-inspired cuisine, but the emphasis is on local, seasonal ingredients. Three words: pork belly taco." 50 Carmine St., (212) 929-5050, MAP

    Now go fourth and celebrate!
