Fire Power!
Find out if your muscles are working hard or hardly working with this bodywork technique.
Ever wonder why some people seem to work out less...and still get super-fit? Turns out it could be because their muscles fire more effectively. To get our guns blazing, we booked a Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) treatment with MAT specialist and personal trainer Stephanie Turner.
MAT is a form of bodywork used to correct imbalances that can cause larger muscles to compensate for weaker ones (that's why one muscle could build up while another stays flabby). MAT uses resistance to find those weak muscles and isometric exercises to strengthen them.
Turner highly recommends MAT exercises if you're working hard, eating right, and not seeing the results you want. It just might help you figure out why your butt gets flat and your legs get bulky from spin, or help you wake up those small muscles in your core for more effective Pilates sessions.
Try this oblique and spinal erector strengthening exercise before you work out to activate your core and maximize your efforts.
Stronger, harder, better, faster.
