Last Night, I Dreamt of San Pedro
We asked a Latin dancer for her favorite LA staycation spot.
Each day this week, we're featuring the best staycations from local health gurus.
If you want the body of a dancer, check out San Pedro's Clarita Bassett, pro Latin dancer, trainer and creator of the workout Mambo Mania. We hear women who work out with Clarita (pictured) end up aging like her: very slowly (download her class schedule here).
When she isn't dancing, Clarita escapes with her husband to Abalone Cove. You'll find:
A healthy hike. Starting at the parking lot, head down to the sand. "You'll have the whole beach to yourself," says Clarita. "It's not hard getting down there, but it's a challenge to get back up." MAP
A waterworld. "You walk out on these rocks, and when the tide goes out, all these little tide pools are left in the crevices, filled with sea urchins and starfish--it's like SCUBA diving outside the water."
A golden opportunity. "Golden Cove is just two miles from Abalone Cove (you can bike it), and has great restaurants. The Admiral Risty has excellent seafood." 31250 Palos Verdes Drive West, Rancho Palos Verdes, (310) 377-0050, MAP
Try it with salsa...or mambo.
