Breathe Easier
The city's newest wellness spot is worth its salt.
When we first heard about the just-opened Halo/Air, we took the news with a grain of salt. (Salt rooms to treat the common cold and help clear up pimply skin?)
The salt trend is already a success in Israel, where Halo/Air has three locations and more coming soon. We checked out the ultra-sleek Flatiron spot, where cave-like rooms are coated in Ukranian salt.
Research has shown that the ultra-refined aerosolized salt helps clear out airways (good for allergy and asthma sufferers, and for preventing the common cold), as well as heals skin disorders such as acne and psoriasis. For moms, there's even a playroom to help with kids who have breathing problems.
We used the hour-long session to relax and read; simply being in the pure salt environment does the health-enhancing trick. While multiple sessions are necessary to really experience the benefits, we left feeling rested and ready for more.
Guess you could say, we caved.
