Kale'ing It
This winter green is getting rave reviews.
Thanks to Popeye, spinach became a star, leaving its cousin kale to wilt away. But now the antioxidant-rich green is taking center stage. Offering a healthy dose of beta carotene, vitamins K and C and calcium, kale is cropping up around town:
• At Roberta's Pizza, where veggies grow in the restaurant's own greenhouse, you can order up a Kalezone pie topped with a healthy heaping of kale along with chevre, mozzarella, and garlic. 261 Moore St., Brooklyn, (718) 417-1118, MAP
• Chefs at the recently opened Northern Spy Food Co. serve a satisfying kale salad with cheddar, squash, almonds, and lemon dressing. 511 E. 12th St., (212) 228-5100, MAP
• Snacksters who crave the crunch can nosh on New York Naturals Kale Chips. You can find the zesty bites at Lifethyme Market. 410 6th Ave., (212) 420-9099, MAP
Looks like it's time to turn over a new leaf.
