Vital Tested: Lyra
Sometimes, you have to jump through hoops.
Our New York editor has dangled from silk ropes and boxed ballet style. Always looking for the next fitness wacky workout challenge to share with readers, she visited Manhattan Movement and Arts Center to try out Lyra.
Circus veteran Bobby Hedglin-Taylor helped us get into the swing of things. After a quick warm-up, it's to the hoops where we hung monkey bar-style before swinging upright. (Holy ab workout.)
We learned to maneuver ourselves into different poses on the hoop, which is anchored to the ceiling and dangling. But the highlight of the class was simply holding on to the hoop and circling the floor, making even the coordination-challenged feel light on her feet.
Lyra is offered Thursdays at noon. Stop by to see what all the hoop-la is about.
